From Intern to Full-Time: My Journey at Blowtrumpet
“Sometimes, the biggest opportunities come disguised as small chances.
You just have to show up.”
Where It All Began
My journey at Blowtrumpet started almost a year ago — not as an employee, but as a nervous intern.
I wasn’t from a tier-1 college.
I didn’t have a fancy résumé or big-brand internships to my name.
When I looked at Blowtrumpet’s job descriptions, I was certain I wouldn’t make the cut.
They were clear about one thing — they didn’t want to have long conversations with those who didn’t have proof of competitive merit.
But life has its own algorithms.
Hidden somewhere inside the system was a mentor — someone who believed that raw hunger deserved a fair chance.
He proposed an Early Career Program — for the underdogs like me.
The stipend wasn’t much, but the opportunity was pure gold.
I was told one thing clearly:
“If you can learn, deliver, and stay disciplined through this internship, you’ll earn a full-time role.”
That’s all I needed to hear.
The Day I Showed Up
The office wasn’t a skyscraper.
It was a garage setup — residential, bootstrap, every rupee saved and spent wisely.
But the vibe?
Pure startup. Focus. Fire. Hunger.
That morning, as I stepped in, someone said,
“Congratulations, you’ve already cleared your first test.”
I smiled, confused.
They explained, “Most interns today don’t show up. They collect offer letters. You showed up.”
That line stayed with me.
And from that day, I decided — I’ll keep showing up. Every single day.
Learning What “Product” Really Means
Until that point, everything I’d learned in college was about services, code, deliverables.
No one had ever explained what it meant to build a product.
That changed on Day 1.
The idea was shared with me — the vision, the architecture, the why.
I remember saying,
“This is exciting, doable, but not simple.”
A week later, I realized:
“This isn’t even what tier-1 college projects look like — it’s way more ambitious.”
And that’s when it hit me.
I wasn’t just interning. I was building.
And I wasn’t going to look back.
The Real Education Begins
Blowtrumpet gave me everything I needed to grow —
hardware, software, mentorship, and most importantly, attention.
I wasn’t allowed to work remotely.
My mentor would look me in the eye and say:
“Rejection or acceptance will be made through eye contact, not words.”
Every day, I received feedback.
Every day, I learned discipline.
Every day, I got better.
Within weeks, I was surrounded by other interns — from IITs, BITS Pilani, DTU.
Some took the opportunity seriously; others faded away.
Early-stage startup life isn’t for everyone.
There’s no glamour, no perks — just hard work, black coffee, and big dreams.
But I stayed.
And soon, I was handed responsibility — Project Manager.
From Intern to Builder
I started managing timesheets, coordinating deadlines, and tracking projects.
The trust was real — and so was the expectation.
In less than 3 months, I learned what many freshers learn in years.
The environment wasn’t about pressure — it was about ownership.
Freedom came with accountability.
I experimented, built prototypes, learned new stacks, debugged nights away, and even competed with teammates for fun.
The culture?
Raw, honest, disciplined — but never dull.
The Other Side of the Table
Then came my biggest surprise — I was asked to screen resumes.
Yes, me — the intern-turned-project-manager.
I reviewed candidates with more experience than myself.
That’s when I realized — screening is more art than seniority.
Many applications were perfect on paper — AI-polished, articulate, impressive.
But when you spoke to the people behind them, many stories didn’t hold up.
I often wondered:
“If your current job is so fulfilling, why are you switching?”
It made me realize — authenticity is the rarest skill today.
And I could finally see what our founders meant when they said,
“We don’t hire resumes. We hire conviction.”
The Year That Changed Everything
As the months passed, I graduated.
My short internship extended into a long one — and eventually, a full-time role.
I’ve since:
-
Written code and documentation
-
Managed projects
-
Created pitch decks and technical briefs
-
Set up servers, configured environments, debugged bugs at midnight
-
Interviewed candidates
-
Learned from rejections, failures, and fixes
-
Contributed to something real
And in return, Blowtrumpet gave me mentorship, trust, and a second home.
Life at Blowtrumpet
We still work like it’s Day 1 —
tight deadlines, tighter bonds, no bureaucracy.
No one here drinks tea; black coffee is the official ritual.
We debate, brainstorm, argue, and laugh — all before lunch.
You make your own tea, write your own code, build your own future.
That’s the rule.
Every day, there’s something new to learn, something new to fix, something new to celebrate.
It’s a place where you don’t just start your career —
you design it.
What I’ve Learned
-
Show up. Always.
-
Work hard. No tool replaces grit.
-
Learn fast. Because startups don’t wait.
-
Stay honest. People can feel it.
-
Be grateful. Opportunities like this don’t come twice.
The Road Ahead
I’ve been told my story is rare.
Maybe it is.
But I hope it becomes less rare — because more people deserve this kind of growth.
Blowtrumpet is still early-stage, still raw, still hungry.
And so am I.
Every morning when I grab my black coffee and put on my headphones, I know:
I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
Passion led me here.
Discipline will take me further.
The best of it is still to come.
Thinking about applying?
If you’re curious, driven, and ready to turn your paper into proof,
this might just be your story too.
